Help us make Guelph the most engaged community in Canada

We want diverse voices to participate regularly in local government decisions. To do this we know we must get better at:

  • Creating safer spaces for more diverse voices
  • Reducing barriers to participation
  • Meeting people where they are

And we need to get better at using community wisdom to shape decisions for both short-term projects and the ones that affect future generations.

What is the Community Engagement Framework and Policy?

The Policy and Framework are documents that guide City staff on its approach to engaging the community on decisions that affect you. These documents influence how City staff think about, design, and deliver community engagement, and ultimately, how your voice is reflected in City decisions, policies, systems, programs, and services

First approved in 2013, the current Community Engagement Policy and Community Engagement Framework (last revised in 2015) are due for an update.

How you can get involved

This is your place to find out more about shaping our next-generation Community Engagement Policy and Framework. To start we need you to tell us how we can do this work better, and with your feedback and advice, a revised framework will unfold.

  • Take our survey to dig deeper into the themes we have heard
  • Share your stories about excellent, and not-so-excellent experiences by sharing your ideas and opinions using the stories tab below.
  • Tell us your thoughts about the way we engage with you, your family, friends, and neighbours using the Thoughts and Ideas tab below.
  • Ask us anything about community engagement at the City of Guelph using the Questions tab.

Visit us at our Thursday Feb 9 from 10-12 at East Branch of Guelph Public Library on Starwood Drive

  • Since October, we’ve been learning from diverse community members about how our community engagement practices should evolve. We want to dig a bit deeper into what we are hearing.

Please take just 5 minutes to help us understand more about:

    • Meeting people where they already are,
    • The best ways to share information with you,
    • Creating a sense of safety, joy and belonging in the engagement process, and
    • Other ways we can make Guelph a more engaged city.
