We’re building a new splash pad at Eastview Park in 2022! The new splash pad will be built next to the playground and washroom facilities and will be fully accessible to all users.

We need your help to:

  • Choose between two splash pad designs
  • Select shade structures and seating
  • Share any accessibility ideas or concerns

We’ll use your feedback from this survey to finalize the design and share it with the community by December 2021.

Sustaining and building our future

The new splash pad will include a water recirculation system and on-demand activation switch that increases water efficiency. It also monitors water quality and requires fewer chemicals to treat the water.

Construction is expected to start in summer 2022 and be complete in time for seasonal splash pad openings in spring 2023.

Pollinator Theme

Review the pollinator design overview here.

Oval splashpad with colourful flower shaped features and large shade structure with honeycomb holes throughout

The pollinator theme was selected to celebrate the existing Pollinator Park over the former landfill within Eastview Park. This theme incorporates flowers, bees, and butterflies and vibrant colours throughout the spray features. The shade structure incorporates a hexagonal honeycomb pattern cut into the roof that casts the same pattern as a shadow on the ground. Yellow was selected as the main colour for site furnishings to compliment the colours of the splash pad and the nearby washroom building. A landform berm along the east side helps to buffer the parking lot and contain children within the safe play space.

Features:

  • Pollinator themed splash pad equipment
  • Large shade structure with honeycomb pattern
  • Seating options including benches, armour stone seating, tables, and lounge chairs
  • Pathway connections to playground, washroom building, trails, and other amenities in Eastview Park
  • Shade trees
  • Landform berm to buffer parking lot from splash pad

Modern PlazaTheme

Review the Modern design overview here.

Square shaped splash pad area with sprinklers and individual picnic tables with shade umbrellas

The modern plaza theme was selected to compliment the existing washroom building which has clean angular lines and a modern aesthetic. This theme includes spray features that are abstract and sculptural. Rather than a large shade structure, this theme focuses on nodes for shade and seating, with a number of permanent steel umbrellas. Blue was selected as the main colour for site furnishings to compliment the colours of the splash pad and the nearby washroom building. A landform berm along the east side helps to buffer the parking lot and contain children within the safe play space.

Features:

  • modern themed splash pad equipment
  • A number of permanent steel umbrellas for shade nodes
  • Seating options including benches, a concrete seat wall, tables, and lounge chairs
  • Pathway connections to playground, washroom building, trails, and other amenities in Eastview Park
  • Shade trees
  • Landform berm to buffer parking lot from splash pad

Funding for the design of the splash pad was approved as part of the 2021 capital budget process. The construction of the splash pad will be funded by development charges, pending Council approval of the 2022 capital budget.

Both design concepts fit within the proposed 2022 capital budget which will be presented for approval in December.
