Consultation has concluded

We are hosting this virtual house to present plans for the Metcalfe Street road reconstruction project. This includes the installation of underground water and sewer pipes on Metcalfe Street from Terry Boulevard to Eramosa Road.

Metcalfe Street will be closed from Terry Boulevard to Eramosa Road in both directions with limited access. There will be no on-street parking during the project. Construction includes the installation of sanitary and storm sewer pipes, water pipes, curb, gutter and sidewalks, and final repaving. This construction is expected to begin in September 2021 and be completed by fall 2022, pausing during the winter months and starting back up again in the spring.

The approach taken for driveways and boulevards will vary along the road. Generally speaking driveways with existing boulevards of 0.5m or less will be reconstructed without a boulevard, in favour of a wider 1.8m sidewalk.  In other areas boulevards will be narrowed in order to widen the existing 1.2m sidewalks to a width of 1.5m.  All driveways will be tapered appropriately to road entry.

Will residents in the construction area with mobility issues have access to their driveways throughout the construction?

RF asked almost 3 years ago

Driveway access will be maintained throughout construction. Minor delays lasting less than a day may be experienced due to the needs of construction, however warning will be provided prior to the loss of driveway access.

Any residents with mobility concerns are recommended to contact the Project Manager so that appropriate accommodations can be provided.

Can I arrange for curbing to be widened to change driveway width?

Phunter asked almost 3 years ago

Curb cuts at driveway will be reinstated to the width of the existing driveway as a default. Based on City of Guelph By-Laws, all residential properties within the construction area are zoned R.1B and may have a maximum driveway width of 6.5 metres. If you wish to widen your driveway up to the 6.5 metre maximum width please contact the Project Manager or Site Inspector to arrange for direction to be given to the contractor.

Accommodations will be made for essential caregivers and visitors to the Elliott Community. As the construction progresses alternative parking areas will be identified and communicated to staff, residents, and visitors to the Elliott Community to provide a path of least resistance for access to the buildings. If any mobility concerns are identified they will be individually addressed to ensure equitable access.
