Whether you’re a sports enthusiast, a sports field neighbour, or a fan, we want to hear from you.

We’re creating a plan for how we’ll manage sports fields and your participation will contribute to creating vibrant and accessible spaces for recreation and community fun in the city. Be part of the team that shapes the future of sports fields in Guelph!

About the project

The Outdoor Sport Facility Strategy is a comprehensive 15+ year strategy that will guide the development, management, and maintenance of Guelph’s outdoor sports fields and courts. The strategy will:

  • Further our understanding of how we currently provide services for outdoor sports
  • Establish service level targets for outdoor sports fields and surfaces
  • Plan for the quality, quantity and type of infrastructure we will need in the future
  • Understand emerging trends and leading practices
  • Equitably provide services and facilities to all residents
  • Guide management and maintenance of our sports fields and surfaces

The strategy will focus on outdoor infrastructure and services for sport fields (rectangular, diamonds) and courts (basketball, tennis, pickleball, volleyball). It will also consider unprogrammed, regional, and extended use of sport infrastructure. This work will build upon the groundwork and direction set out in the City’s Park Plan and Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Share your thoughts and experience with us.

We need participation from the whole community. Between May 15 and June 18, join the team by completing our Facility use and interest survey and put a pin on our Great Tournament Facilities map to:

  • Identify where improved or different sports fields and courts may be needed across the city
  • Share information about new, emerging, or international sports that should be considered in the strategy
  • Let us know what's working and how we can improve where and how outdoor sport facilities are built, booked and maintained across the City.

We want to hear from you!

We began the process earlier this year by learning from sports user groups, community organizations and partners to set the foundation and define the scope of our community engagement.

We are getting ready to launch the next phase of engagement where we're asking the whole community to participate and help:

    • Identify where improved or different sports fields and courts may be needed across the city
    • Share information about new, emerging, or international sports that should be considered in the strategy
    • Let us know what's working and how we can improve where and how outdoor sport facilities are built, booked and maintained across the City.

Between May 15 and June 18, we want to hear from you

    • Complete our online survey to share your experiences and interests with outdoor sport in Guelph
    • Tell us about the great tournament facilities by putting a pin on the map. Where are the locations we should learn from both here and across Ontario if we grow options in Guelph to host tournaments and larger sporting events.
    • Find us popping up at parks and recreation facilities across the City to speak with our team in person.
        • May 27 (6 p.m.to 8 p.m.) Margaret Greene Park
        • June 1 (12:30 p.m. to end of game) Guelph Royals game at Hastings Stadium
        • June 3 (6 p.m.to 8 p.m.) Norm Jary Park
        • June 7-9 (throughout the weekend event) Multicultural Festival
        • June 17 (6 p.m.to 8 p.m.) Eastview Park
        • June 23 (1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) Guelph United FC Men and Women games at Centennial Bowl
