Consultation has concluded

Thank you Guelph! Check out the final designs for five playgrounds set for replacement to start in the spring of 2023. Your feedback made for fun and exiting designs that appeal to a variety of ages and designed specifically for the people in your neighbourhood!

We’re replacing five playgrounds this fall:

What's next

In round one, the community told us what was important for each playground, then the community voted on a preferred design for each of the five playgrounds and told us what could make them even better. Soon we will share the final designs and plans for construction starting in the spring and all playgrounds are expected to reopen by the fall of 2023.

About playground replacements

When we replace play equipment, we consider available budget, maintenance, how to make the play equipment fun for everyone, and comments from our community. Your participation in engagement will help us choose the right play equipment for your neighbourhood.

We heard during engagement that surfacing type is an important part of making some playgrounds wheelchair accessible. Working alongside the City’s Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC), we’ve included rubber surfacing at Howden Park and Herb Markle Park with wood chips at Sunny Acres, Goldie and Gosling Gardens.

Managing construction costs

We are excited to put your ideas to good use wit these final playground designs. Over the past year, moving capital projects forward depends on product availability and inflation that could impact the timeline of work. We will do our best to make sure the work proceeds on schedule. If there are significant changes to the project schedule or we adjust which playgrounds will be replaced this year, we’ll share the news on our website, Facebook and Twitter and email participants subscribed to haveyoursay.guelph.ca.

Last summer, we announced we’re replacing the playground at Goldie Park.

We asked for your help to tell us what kind of equipment you want to see, what you like about the current playground and if there are any accessibility features you want to see. Using your feedback, we’ve created two playground designs for the park. Vote for your favourite design by May 31.
