The place is a sanctuary

I truly discovered these lands last winter. I came to realise that it was one of the few places nearby I could drive to and park without fear of getting stuck in the snow as I went off for a good walk. I was soon pleased to discover that a wide driveway was cleared regularly so that I could hike from the entranceway up to the top of the hill where the old buildings sit. The views from many different angles and various places atop the hill is almost strategic in it's layout and design. It is a remarkable and uncommon view of various landscapes, hills, and of course the lake below.
I made this hike a regulary part of my daily excercise routine and continue to do so. Many others do the same. As the weather turned warmer and footpaths revealed themselves, I discovered several other well worn paths all around the grounds. Clearly it is enjoyed by many. I regularly see people fishing, dog walkers, couples out for a stroll, children exploring and bird watchers. I have seen long lensed camera's around the necks of individuals who waited patiently for a good shot of the birds up in the trees.

I wondered if this was now some sort of bird sanctuary? I have never been to a place which has so many birds chirping from all around. The foreground, background, and swooping over marshes.

Lately I have been marvelling at such a place that must have caused fear and discomfort for those who dwelled there at one time and now brings such peace and beauty. I am astounded that anyone would contemplate the disturbance of such a unique grounds. It may not be a bird sanctuary per se, but it sure is a sanctuary to me.
