Speedvale Avenue West infrastructure improvements and new multi-use path - Elmira Road North to Imperial Road North

The City of Guelph is hosting a virtual open house to present plans for the Speedvale Avenue West infrastructure improvements project. This includes the construction of a new multi-use path and the installation of underground water and sewer pipes on Speedvale Avenue West from Elmira Road North to Imperial Road North.

A study map drawing showing Speedvale avenue west and perpendicular streets from Elmira Road North to the Hanlon Expressway. The study area is indicated by a red crosshatched section from Elmira Road North to Imperial Road North along Speedvale Avenue West.

About the project

Speedvale Avenue West will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Elmira Road North to Imperial Road North. Some short-term road closures and controlled access to businesses can also be expected during the project.

Construction includes the installation of new storm sewer and water pipes, a new multi-use path, curb and gutter, and final repaving.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2022 and be completed by fall 2022.

This is your opportunity to review the presentation, project information, and construction plans, and to ask questions about the project including traffic impacts and property access. From Monday, October 25 to Friday, November 12, 2021, at 4 p.m., provide your comments and ask questions below. Our team members are also available by email or phone from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday if you prefer to contact us directly.

Are their plans for more of a multi path on speedvale other than between imperial and Elmira? Why the north side of speedvale given the consistent sidewalks are on the south side from the Hanlon to Westwood?

Dana asked over 2 years ago

The Multi-Use Path is being constructed on the north side of Speedvale Avenue West between Elmira Road North and Imperial Road North to help facilitate pedestrian and cyclist traffic to the businesses on the north side of the road. Plans for a multi-use path on the south side of the roadway are being included in the City's Transportation Plan, however the south side of the roadway is outside of the scope of this project.
