Create, Play and Stay
The City of Guelph is starting to develop Create, Play and Stay: A culture and sport tourism strategy for Guelph.
This strategy is funded through the Government of Canada’s Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) to adapt and recover, to attract new visitors and drive economic growth in culture and sport tourism across Guelph. Create, Play and Stay puts part of the 2022-2026 Economic Development and Tourism Strategy, into action and supports our goal of building “a must-see visitor destination in Ontario.”
Thank you for your help crating this strategy!

Thanks to everyone who participated. Your feedback and ideas will go a long way!

What's working well already?
over 1 year agoCLOSED: This ideas has concluded.Let us know what's working really well already in the current landscape and opportunities for sports and culture tourism in Guelph.
- Share some tourism initiatives and programs that you think of as best-practices
- Who are we already attracting to the community for sports and culture events and activities?
- Are the programs, facilities and supports offered by the City of Guelph helping to provide the opportunities for community-led sports and culture events?
Community partner conversationover 1 year agoWe have the spaces, but they aren't all affordable
There are great arts spaces in Guelph, but they can be more affordable and accessible for grass-roots organizations

I love seeing all the different ways our larger parks (like Royal City and Riverside) get used for a variety of events. They're great community spaces.

What are our weaknesses?
over 1 year agoCLOSED: This ideas has concluded. What concerns, gaps or weaknesses affect culture and/or sport tourism in the community?
We want to hear all your thoughts, here are just some examples to get the conversation rolling:
- What is missing when you think about places and spaces in Guelph? - museums, theatres and other culture amenities, parks, indoor and outdoor recreation facilities.....
- What City of Guelph policies are working against culture and sport tourism?
- How is the community investment program working for the greater good
- Can we improve the way we market Guelph as a sports and tourism destination?
Community partner conversationover 1 year agoRoom to go!
We need outdoor washroom amenities with year-round access in more places!
0 comment0Community partner conversationover 1 year agoWhere are the facilities?
The infrastructure isn't there to support extra events in arenas, parks fields etc.

Guelph is serviced by two different trains (GO and VIA), plus the GO bus. Since you don't need a car to get to Guelph, you shouldn't need a car when you get to Guelph. Good transit has improved my experience when I'm a tourist in other cities because I don't have to navigate unfamiliar roads or worry about parking. We should strive for a transit system so good that people want to use it because it enhances their visit to Guelph.

Working together
over 1 year agoCLOSED: This ideas has concluded.Where can we improve the culture and sports tourism landscape through partnerships?
To start, think about partnerships with or among:
- the Guelph community
- businesses
- interest groups
- not for profit and charitable organizations
- University of Guelph
- other municipalities
- other levels of government
- anybody else? The sky's the limit
Community partner conversationover 1 year agoShuttle services
can we have a community shuttle from trail heads and parking areas to event spots?
0 comment0Community partner conversationover 1 year agoConnecting the grass roots
There is a disconnect in the grassroots activities – the opportunity to collaborate isn’t immediately obvious

Increase event awareness by centralizing marketing and communications opportunities
