During refinishing phase of reconstruction, what will be the approach to driveways and boulevards? For instance, will existing boulevards be removed to make room for a wider sidewalk, and will driveway entries be tapered to road entry, which would be our preference as done in phase 1 of Metcalfe reconstruction. The current 12" boulevard doesnot serve any purpose, and a wider sidewalk has proven to be much more user friendly, as discovered during Covid

The approach taken for driveways and boulevards will vary along the road. Generally speaking driveways with existing boulevards of 0.5m or less will be reconstructed without a boulevard, in favour of a wider 1.8m sidewalk.  In other areas boulevards will be narrowed in order to widen the existing 1.2m sidewalks to a width of 1.5m.  All driveways will be tapered appropriately to road entry.

Will residents in the construction area with mobility issues have access to their driveways throughout the construction?

    RF asked 4 months ago

Driveway access will be maintained throughout construction. Minor delays lasting less than a day may be experienced due to the needs of construction, however warning will be provided prior to the loss of driveway access.

Any residents with mobility concerns are recommended to contact the Project Manager so that appropriate accommodations can be provided.

Can I arrange for curbing to be widened to change driveway width?

    Phunter asked 4 months ago

Curb cuts at driveway will be reinstated to the width of the existing driveway as a default. Based on City of Guelph By-Laws, all residential properties within the construction area are zoned R.1B and may have a maximum driveway width of 6.5 metres. If you wish to widen your driveway up to the 6.5 metre maximum width please contact the Project Manager or Site Inspector to arrange for direction to be given to the contractor.

I definitely agree that the work on the street needs to be done but wonder where are the essential caregivers for the Elliott Community going to park since they usually park on the street? Many of these visitors are seniors themselves who are carrying bags into the residence.

    A. LeBlanc asked 4 months ago

Accommodations will be made for essential caregivers and visitors to the Elliott Community. As the construction progresses alternative parking areas will be identified and communicated to staff, residents, and visitors to the Elliott Community to provide a path of least resistance for access to the buildings. If any mobility concerns are identified they will be individually addressed to ensure equitable access.
